About Us
Preserving the Past—Embracing the Future
The Western Art Gallery features new and emerging artists who create original works that reflect the life and times of western Canadians of the past and present. We provide a unique opportunity for visitors to the Calgary Stampede to own original art that contributes to the preservation and promotion of western heritage and values. The Western Art Gallery is one of six volunteer committees of the Western Showcase Art Show.
The Western Art Gallery is guided by our motto, 'Preserving the Past—Embracing the Future.' The Gallery presents an art show featuring both traditional and contemporary works that reflect the fusion of rural and urban influences and a rich culture that is truly one of a kind (excluding west coast imagery). We accept both two- and three-dimensional works, including Western Trappings, to the Western Art Gallery.
Each year artists are selected by a jury process to show their work in the Gallery. These works are sold on behalf of the artists during the 10 days of Stampede by our dedicated volunteers.
For complete details, please read our Terms and Conditions. To apply to the Western Art Gallery please fill in the on-line application.
The Western Art Gallery is one part of the Western Showcase located in the BMO Centre (formerly the Roundup Centre). The Gallery is organized by a volunteer subcommittee of the Western Showcase. For more information on all that the Western Showcase has to offer, including other areas of their Art Show, please see the Western Showcase home page.
Feature Exhibits of the Western Art Gallery
A new feature for the Western Art Gallery is Artist InSite. This is an education and demonstration feature within the Western Art Gallery where artists can talk to and demonstrate their art form. The purpose of Artist InSite is to educate visitors about art and the western art genre. Artists who participate can bring in their art supplies to demonstrate but are not permitted to bring in new pieces for sale as only juried art can be sold in the Gallery. However, this is a great opportunity to talk to visitors and perhaps sell one of their pieces for sale in the Gallery.
