2009 Feature Artist
Marilyn Kinsella paints watercolours out of her studio/gallery in the picturesque Canadian Rockies town of Canmore, Alberta focusing on the beautiful landscapes that surround her or are a short drive, hike or in some cases, flight away. Marilyn sometimes dabbles in other subjects and mediums like oil, acrylic and pastel. But her true love always brings her back to the mountains and watercolours that so express her creative painting style.
Marilyn's paintings are sought after by collectors of fine art and frequently by corporations for gift purposes. With Marilyn’s growing popularity she is becoming a world famous watercolour artist and ships her prints and originals to almost all corners of the world. Hong Kong, Great Britain, Eastern Europe, Japan, Australia and the United States, are a few of the places she has sent her paintings.
Below are four original Marilyn Kinsella watercolour pieces plus comments that will be available for sale during the 2009 Western Art Show exhibit.

Lonely Giant
Watercolor, Image size 9” by 12”, Price $500
“The weather utilitarian structures have a unique beauty. Sadly they are disappearing from the prairie landscape and being replaced by more utilitarian structures. This scene is a composite and not of a specific grain elevator or a place. I brought the distant mountains up closer than one might see, and chose to paint the elevator in orange.”

Cascading Creek
Watercolor, Image size 8.5” by 16.5”, Price $600
“My memory of this spot in Jasper is combined with challenging bushwhacking over dead fall, swatting of the mosquitoes and some concern that there might be a grizzly nearby. I had fully intended to park my equipment and paint ‘en plein air however the physical challenges drove me off. I quickly sketched the spring run-off, and took a couple of photos. The forest was in complete shade, which inspired me to paint the mysterious background.”

Three Sisters, Another View
Watercolor, Image size 15.5” by 22”, Price $1400
“I’ve lived in Canmore for over 25 years and thus The Three Sisters mountain range has become indelible. I am frequently asked how many times I might have painted them (?!!!) Too many times to count! I never tire of my favorite subject. This not a typical view, it is situated just east of town and shows the three peaks piled up one behind the other.”

Takakakaw Falls
Watercolor, Image size 16” by 32”, Price $1400
“On a late July visit to these extremely vertical falls in Yoho Park, I was rewarded with an amazing volume of water. It seemed that the water was pouring out of the mountain’s vertical rock face. In reality, the flow of water comes from glacier melt higher up and not seen from this vantage point.”
