Mary Ellen grew up in Claresholm and now lives in Okotoks. She started singing as soon as she could talk and sang her first solo in a concert at the age of four. She began writing songs as a teenager and enjoys playing the auto harp, piano, and anything that makes music. She earned her Bachelor of Education Degree with Distinction, majoring in music from the University of Alberta. She has won numerous music awards throughout her life, two of the most recent from Canada Gospel Music Awards, and a $750.00 Bursary from the Foothills Blue Grass Music Society. When she is not on the road singing, she enjoys hiking, swimming, horseback riding, and dancing. She has sung and played at Shady Grove Blue Grass Festivals, David Thompson Festival, Great Canadian Barn Dance Blue Grass and Country Festivals, Medicine Hat Gospel Jamborees, Willow Creek Gospel Jamborees, Fairs, Private Events, Cowboy Gatherings and Churches, Hospitals, Long Term Care Facilities, and Manors. During Stampede, Mary Ellen has sung for six years at Stampede Pancake Breakfasts. She also performs at Window on the West Stage and at the Heritage Tea on Stampede Park.
